Hospital Playroom
The hospital playroom has been designed for the new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) named the Dyson Centre in Bath. The room provides a safe and fun area for children to play in. The playroom design was developed along with children and parents to form a welcoming environment in difficult and stressful times.

The furniture edges have been designed to have smooth edges that can be easily cleaned for infection control reasons

The hospital playroom has been designed to maximise use of space whilst ensuring a safe play environment. Continuous coloured slices define play and seating areas, for both children and parents. Fixtures are kept to minimum or hidden and rounded edges are used across surfaces to prevent injury. The vibrant colour palette used, ties with other alcove and ceiling surfaces to create an identity for the building.

The soft edges allow children to play safely, storage is proved to allow toys to be quickly cleared away by staff working in the ward

The building is sustainable in both its construction and operation which, when combined with clinical expertise and optimum space, contributes to a reduction in stress levels experienced by parents and will provide a highly beneficial healing environment for the babies.
