Lyme Regis Museum Shop
As part of a new architectural extension at Devon’s Lyme Regis Museum, our client wanted to create a gift shop that would reflect the values of the museum and draw people in at street level. Key to the project was a design that complimented the striking seafront zinc and glass facade, so we poured over every detail developing a palette of materials and textures that take cues from local topography.
Whilst dark stained timbers reference the ‘blue lias’ stone visible in the cliffs dominating Lyme Regis, a more literal representation of local geology takes the form of a hand poured strata counter front complete with sand, shingle and the odd fossil. Flexible shelving units provide areas for child focused games and objets, whilst timber pegs give the option for feature displays or chalk board signage. Two-tone, free standing units break up the shop floor with additional recessed lighting and timber display boxes giving elevation to items of interest.
